I've been lax on getting my shadowlands pets, so for a replacement of the larva, I used Scabby (1*1) HP. Worked great!

PAGE UPDATE - BY ARANESH
2022-07-02 11:01:41
Hey everyone!

Thanks for stopping by :) If you are a regular visitor, you will have noticed that the last few days were riddled with access issues. I apologise for all these problems since I know how much many of you rely on the strategies listed here.
The reason for the issue is two-fold. There was an attack against the service provider (probably not against Xu-Fu directly) which caused the server to crash.
At the same time, however, there has always been a very high load on the server, making it prone to long loading times, timeouts and eventual crashes.

To combat these, I had to add a maximum number of simultaneous visitors. This is only a temporary measure and I will ease this limitation over time until things are OK again.
I am also working on a number of improvements to make the page more stable.

One of them you will see later today, a brand new comment and notification system! I was working on that for weeks now and it was almost ready, but since it will replace a large amount of very old (and inefficient) code, I am rolling it out now already. It will take a bit to get used to but the new system should work much better to notify you when other people reply to your comments or write something on your created strategies.

Thank you for your understanding!

PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
2022-06-23 21:19:01
Things are heating up on Azeroth as summer is finally here, so let's light some fires and get some pets!

For the Midsummer Fire Festival holiday there are four pets, and today also marks the beginning of summer when the seasonal pet, Qiraji Guardling, becomes available.

1 Midsummer Fire Festival: 21 June - 5 July

From this holiday three of the pets are through a vendor, and the fourth is through defeating the holiday boss: Ahune, the Frost Lord. All of these pets are cageable, so if you don't have time to farm for the currency, or you're worried you might not have enough currency for all the pets, fear not! You can head over to your local Auction House and grab the ones you're missing.

1.1 Vendor Pets

Each of these pets will cost you 350 Burning Blossoms.

Blazing Cindercrawler

Igneous Flameling

Spirit of Summer

1.2 Holiday Boss Reward

This pet drops from the bag you receive for defeating Ahune, the Frost Lord, when queuing through the dungeon finder. Ahune is located in Slave Pens in Outlands' Zangarmarsh.

Frigid Frostling

2 Seasonal Pet

Summer in the Northern Hemisphere also marks when the seasonal pet, Qiraji Guardling, becomes available. This pet can be found in Silithus, and it has quite a few breeds, so it might take some time if you're looking for a specific one.

Don't forget: you need this pet to complete the Kalimdor Safari Achievement.

It will be available this year until 21 September

Qiraji Guardling

And that's everything! We at Xu-Fu's wish you all the best in your pet collecting and battling endeavors, so until next time: happy battling & happy Midsummer!

PET NEWS - BY DRAGONSAFTERDARK
2022-05-30 15:45:59
...And that's about it as far as we can see for 9.2.5 for pet battles.

Here's the content update note for Jingles:
Fixed an issue where Jingles battle pet would display as "Unknown" when summoned and its wreath and candy cane accessories were the incorrect size in the Pet Journal.

This should fix the issue with using level stones on Jingles, as well as its name not displaying properly.

That's good news!

The bad news, however, is we haven't heard anything about the missing wreaths and candy canes for people with naked Jingles. It seems like things went awry when trying to make it like the reindeer, where the festive gear only displays during Winter Veil.

Also, you still cannot destroy or cage Jingles.

Wain, who runs Petopia and Warcraft Mounts, also pointed this out:
...the issue is that Jingles has two display IDs in the database, one has added Winter Veil decorations (added via a spellkit), and one is plain. There's a 50% chance of ending up with one or the other. If this was intended, the problem remains that you can only have one of this pet for some reason and you can't crate/delete it, so you're stuck with whatever appearance you opened first. So, allowing players to own multiple Jingles, and for them to be crateable/deletable would help.

It's also possible the two IDs were originally intended to be used on the same pet at different times of year (like, only decked out in Winter Veil gear at Christmas) but if so they never implemented it that way.

Hopefully we'll see them continue to work on these issues, and personally I'd like to see Jingles cageable like the other pets received from the presents.

Now, we have seen some updates to 'invalid' pets, like Tezpet, which might mean something is encrypted that will only show up once the patch goes live. Unfortunately it could also just be for internal testing reasons.

So, nothing new for the pet community as far as we can see, and likely nothing until the Dragonflight pre-order / pre-patch.

We at Xu-Fu's wish you all the best in your pet endeavors, and happy battling!

I give up. Is the auction house checker gone now or can I just not find it?

I love that feature. It's so helpful for me in growing my collection.

Hello, great website, is there a way to sort all pets by owned % ?

I'm trying to figure out the rarest pets i have but can't seem to find a way to figure it out without having to manually scroll each of my pets on the website

Thanks !

Hey, yes there is!
If you go here https://www.wow-petguide.com/Profile/Collection you'll see a blue "Export to Excel" button. Download the sheet, open it in Excel (or google sheets or whichever you prefer) and you'll have a much more detailled list of all pets. It has the ownership percentages included in one of the columns towards the right and you can sort/filter to your liking.

Fair warning though, this percentage is only taking collections into account that are present here on Xu-Fu's, that means mostly people who are into pet battles. The numbers across all WoW are likely much lower.

We don't have a dedicated list for them but if you go through each Dungeon section, the pets you can get are listed in the articles. And if you hover over each of them you can see if you already have it or not :)

There seems to be a bug where it shows different dates depending from which timezone you open the page. I'm looking through that code at the moment to figure out what's going on exactly. Sorry for the confusion!

Wilee#1819

Thanks for looking at it. If it helps, when I checked few weeks ago (from the same computer), I think it actually said 3/24. But changed before the actual day-of. Perhaps some new code got deployed?

Aranesh

My current theory is that the server move changed it. New server appears to treat daylight savings and timezones differently. I've added a bunch of tracking and logging to it now so I can see what exactly is happening.

But in all honesty, I'll probably have to rewrite most of that widget... yay! :D

Have a look at the Elekk Great Big Adventure achievement https://www.wow-petguide.com/Section/12/An_Awfully_Big_Adventure

If you have a roster of the standard Level 25 pets, you will probably find a suitable strat in there. Not so much for Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms, because any Level 25 Blue will just destroy everything you face.

Give it a try at a later point. The news are being loaded when you click and the server is currently a bit ... slow in responding, sometimes crashing. Could be that you clicked when exactly that was the case.

I think the XP tables (the tooltip XP tables on the strats) need an update. I noticed this already a while ago on another occasion, and currently I’m leveling with Sir Galveston (pet Battles Bonus Event week), and I can definitely level a level-1 pet to 25 in two goes with just the Safari Hat on.

According to your table I would have to add a Lesser Pet Trait in order to accomplish in two turns.

With only Safari Hat it goes 1 --> 17 and then 17 --> 25. Not, as suggested, 17 --> 24.

As said, I think this is not only a Pet-Battle-Week-thingy, the tables seem to be slightly off in general.

PS: Why does the “edited” in posts appear with uninterpreted formatting tags? Or is it just my browser? (edited)

Aranesh

wrote on 2020-06-17 16:12:45

Hey!

Been a while since I tinkered with those tables ^^ Perhaps there's some other effect stacking onto it? I have to dig into it. Thanks for flagging it!
I'm currently working on another feature that I want to get out first but I've logged it as a bug:

https://trello.com/c/aDc8S9Zt/64-pet-xp-calculation-in-strategies-is-incorrect

Oh and... the reformatting of the formatting tags here is also a bug :-(

Mot

wrote on 2020-06-18 10:17:43

I can’t think of any other stacking effects I could have had. (Unless Black Iron Dwarfs have a hidden pet XP bonus racial ;) Hey, that would be a great racial!) Are there any others besides the buffs listed in your XP tables?

Will double-check today or tomorrow for any buffs.

Mot

Here some results from a Draenor round-trip today (all with Sign of the Critter and Safari Hat):

[The “XP” are the gained experience points according to the log.]

Ashley: 1 --> 19 with 13485 XP; table is correct
Vesharr: 1 --> 17 with 11238 XP; table is correct
Teralune: 17 --> 25 with 12647 XP; table says: 17 --> 24 with 13098 XP
Tarr the Terrible: 17 --> 25 with 12647 XP; table says: 17 --> 24 with 13098 XP
Gargra: 13 --> 23 with 14493 XP; table is correct
Cymre Brightblade: 1 --> 17 with 11238 XP; table is correct

Summary:

Your tables are correct for the low-level (1; Ashley, Vesharr, Cymre) and mid-level (13; Gargra) range. But in the high-mid range (17; Teralune and Tarr) it seems Blizz has lowered the XP requirements (i.e., you gain more levels with less XP).

This would also be coherent with what I’ve seen yesterday with the Sir Galveston grind.

BTW: This was on different toon than yesterday; so, unfortunately, no Dark Iron Dwarf bonus racial ;-)

Mot

wrote on 2020-06-18 17:36:13

Tiffany Nelson (Hat and Battle Week):

17 --> 25 with 12647; table says: 17 --> 24 with 13098

I stop tracking here, since it just seems to confirm the Draenor results.

Let me know if you want more raw data.

An idea, not sure how easy it would be... allow a user to search strats by pet? When I upgrade a pet to max, I wish I knew if there were strats using that pet that might be better than the ones I was already using.

Gráinne

dreamgarden

Cool! I bookmarked it. Although it would be good to see the live strat stats, too.

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-08-20 04:12:32

That is not as simple as it sounds. In some cases, a strat may specify one or more breeds, like P/S and S/S but in many others will specify absolute stats, like Speed > 305. And then there are substitutes ...

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-08-20 04:15:01

Anyway, Solitha, you can seatch strats by pet.

Go to the Search box at the top, type in Iron Starlette, hit Search, choose Strategies tab: https://www.wow-petguide.com/Pet/77221/Iron_Starlette/Strategies

Solitha

wrote on 2021-08-26 23:47:08

Ah, thanks. I tried that, but apparently with the wrong pet. If there are no strats for the pet the tab doesn't appear... so I didn't know there even was one.

Rysana

wrote on 2021-11-22 13:53:05

While I love that list, and consult it often when deciding on missing assorted pets, it's from 2019. Many new pets, new fights, new reasons to have other breeds of old pets. Still chuckle at the idea few would be interested. My husband won't bother catching a wild pet until I've discussed how I've used it recently-ish, and what the percentages are of the breeds on the list. This included the Silithid Hatchling, during the darn sandstorm! Would be awesome if this was a regular updated survey, or something. Probably difficult, getting the top battlers to update such a thing per new expansion, and then compile it though.

Gráinne

wrote on 2021-11-22 18:20:06

Ugh. I did start to update it for 2021. I never finished. So sad that so many of the Old Reliables have gone, or at least are not getting new pets. I should get back to it tho.

You can look at the ratio of breeds among users of Xu-Fu in the new Pet Statistics, but I wouldn't trust those, I'm afraid. The 2019 Survey has Fiendish Imp at S/S(76%),P/S(13%),P/B(11%), which is sane, while the Statistics show that among Xu-Fu users the numbers are S/S(37%),P/S(32%),P/B(31%) https://www.wow-petguide.com/Pet/71033/Fiendish_Imp/Stats and the vast superiority of the S/S doesn't show up at all.

One problem, though, is that so many of the new pets just don't matter for battling. I've largely stopped caring about Deathroach-ish breeds myself.

Rysana

wrote on 2021-11-23 11:31:12

Ah, yeah. I keep reading all that about battlers, and new pets. Fingers crossed something good emerges. Eventually.

We had a WoW break during the time the new exp came out, so playing catch up. (We weren't thrilled about how the general game lore was going.) Loving the new wild pet battle exp. Found out when I was working down my "Go sort out..." list. Usually toss as many similar level queue pets in a capture team as reasonable, for what used to be almost pointless exp. Shocked about the dead leveling 50% deal too, although, would rather never 'enjoy' that if possible during tamer leveling. Still may make the occasional rng or bug issue less of a time waster. Not looking forward to seeing what changed with flurry, etc. One of my favorite things included finding sets of wild pets to use in somewhat reliable strats. Hope that's not broken all of those up.

Too bad the statistics wouldn't use something like max level win results 2 or more to count as a 'battle pet' breed held by the player. Which would still be off, but at least it means the pet of that breed was used in an actual pet battle by at least that player.

dreamgarden

wrote on 2021-11-24 16:30:59

I just upgraded to Shadowlands (Black Friday deals) for myself and my 2 kids. I'm not too thrilled about all of the death and afterlife lore coming out of it. I played "Classic" and Burning Crusade back when they weren't classic and then took a break. More like quit... instead of writing LUA for addons I learned/started writing Visual Basic and C# for actual work :)
